Jipyeong Makgeolli Shake at Shake Shack

Shake Shack’s Summer Collaboration with Jipyeong Brewery is out! The craving for cold icy beverages emerges as we struggle through “bok-nal”, the so-called hottest days of Korean summer. Here is some good news for makgeolli lovers, Shake Shack has come up with a makgeolli milkshake, a limited summer special that will help you survive the heat.

To celebrate their 5th anniversary, Shake Shack Korea launched a special collaboration project. The Makgeolli Shake is the delicious result of working with Jipyeong Brewery in Yangpyeong. It blends Shake Shack’s original vanilla custard with Jipyeong Makgeolli, as well as some rice toppings on top for texture. The milkshake has versions has both alcohol and non-alcoholic versions, both at the price of 6,800KRW each.

Jipyeong Brewery is a national cultural heritage, and has a long, storied history. It is one of the oldest breweries in Korea, producing makgeolli since 1925, and was once used as the headquarters of UN forces during the Korean War (1950 – 1953), being the only undestroyed building in the area. Jipyeong Makgeolli has been a staple in bar fridges for many years, and they just recently released a sparkling version which can be found in many supermarkets around Korea.

Of course you’ll also want to try a burger at Shake Shack, so they also have a special menu to celebrate called the Seoul Bulgogi Burger, made of Black Angus beef through collaboration with renowned Korean restaurant Hanilgwan. Both the Makgeolli Shake and the Seoul Bulgogi Burger are only available for a limited time from July 20th to August 31st, 2021 so get in quick!
