      The Recommendation

Ipari is the location to impress with fine dining in a casual and unassuming atmosphere. Often frequented by couples and small groups, the U-shaped bar also gives the option to drink or dine alone comfortably. If you are curious about what more upscale Korean dining has to offer with an array of quality Korean alcohols to choose from, Ipari is a worthy destination.

    • Ipari (이파리) in Yeonhui District

Ipari is tucked away neatly up on the second floor of a rather unassuming building by the main road that runs through the up and coming Yeonhui-dong neighbourhood about 15 mins walk from Hongdae station. It is a place famous for its outstanding cuisine, expertly executed by a well renowned chef. It’s not just the exquisite food but the excellent alcohols that make Ipari a destination.

    • Food Recommendation:

      Fish Jeon (동태 전)
      Bulgogi Pork (돼지 불고기)
      Steak Tartare (육회)

    • Drinks Recommendation:

Geumjeong San Makgeolli (금정산성) (Aspartame /  sour /  tangy)
Songmyungseop: (성명섭) (Aspartame free/ dry / light / yoghurty)
Moonbaesool (문배술) (Soju / strong / grainy / sharp)

    • The Food:  Without a doubt the food is a star at Ipari.  The style is a modern take on Korean cuisine, using only the freshest possible ingredients in each dish.   It is one of those rare places in which you find the side dishes are as good as main courses, the best of which were the marinated eggs and the rice porridge served as an entree. The portions are not very large however and if you are hungry you may want to order several dishes.

The Sool: With the focus on the food being of the utmost quality, the same can be said of the sool selection.  Whilst the variety is not extensive, what is carried can be assuredly of good quality.  The delicacy of the food calls for pairings of light makgeolli, fragrant cheongju and strong soju which are all readily available.

The Feel:  Ipari is deceptively large with a U-shaped bar in the center and various rooms shooting off to the sides.  It is brightly lit and with light colored wood, giving it more of a restaurant feeling than bar vibe.  A little ways away from the main hustle and bustle of the vibrant Yeonnam-dong, it lends itself to a casual but quiet evening rather than a raging party vibe.

The Price: There is no mistaking that Ipari is in the higher price bracket for even your higher quality sool establishments.  However, that price is largely due to the cost of the meals rather than an unfair mark-up of the available sool.  The only complaint would be the size of the portions of each meal, though painstaking care and skill are put into each and every dish.

Directions: This place is a good 15 minute walk from Hongdae station through to a somewhat suburban part of the neighborhood.  Come out of Hongdae Station exit 3 and walk straight.  When you come to the main intersection, turn right and follow the road as it curves up into the suburban part of Yeonnam-dong.  You will pass numerous Chinese restaurants along this road, and you will come to a big intersection, but keep walking straight through it.  When you come to the overhead bridges, keep walking and just after you pass the second bridge, the bar is on your right.  There is a Hyundai Motor dealers directly across the road.  The bar has very little signage and is on the second floor.
